please why is this canon
Hi back for more
Justice for mylo!! They could never make me hate you.
I find Jinx's relationship with Sevika to be fascinating given her relationship with Mylo. Mylo was Jinx's older brother and all he ever did was shit on her at every possible chance. He made her feel like shit all of the time. He blamed her for every single major and minor inconvenience. It was so bad that she still hears his taunts in her head years after he's died.
Now compare Mylo's treatment to Sevika's. It's pretty identical. Sevika is constantly bringing down Jinx and shitting on her. She sees Jinx as below her and she resents her because despite her flaws, she is favored above Sevika by Silco. This mirrors how despite the fact that Jinx always fucked things up as a kid, Vi always viewed her as faultless and instead took it out on her other siblings. Mylo and Sevika both have to do double the work just to stay in Vi/Silco's good graces because of Jinx, and no matter how much effort they put in they'll never be desired in the way Jinx is. Both Mylo and Sevika make sure to complain extensively about Jinx while in private and front of Vi/Silco. Sevika personally gets joy out of shit talking Jinx directly to her face.
But this is what makes their relationship so interesting. Because while we see Jinx was deeply bothered by Mylo's shit talking as a child, she isn't even slightly phased by Sevika's shit talking. She straight up doesn't care and doesn't take a single thing Sevika says to heart. She knows Sevika is just shitting on her for the sake of shitting on her. She knows Sevika is full of shit. I think that's really compelling and I also believe it speaks to how much Jinx's confidence and self image has grown in the few years it's been.

Day 31: The Last Drop
past and present
Literally insane to me how small the general webtoon fandom is outside of the webtoon app itself (and maybe reddit??)
I've talked to multiple people irl who LOVE reading webtoon, but the online community is borderline threadbare ! Most people on Tumblr have no IDEA who our blorbos are! I've checked tags for some fairly popular webtoon and it was like visiting that Tatooine town in the Mandalorian where there are 5 citizens total, but only if you also count the Mayor, the sheriff, and the deputy.
Lore Olympus is the most popular webtoon and has under 2,000 fics on AO3. Lookism has roughly 1,000. Unordinary, THEE legacy webtoon, only has 600, and it's been running for almost 7 years now. It has nearly 6M subscribers and still gets 50K+ likes each week. It's not dead by any means.
I guess it doesn't help that each webtoon is its own micro ecosystem and once a webtoon ends, that ecosystem typically fades with it. But webtoons can go on runs longer than most shows on streaming services, and those fandoms burn hot and bright even if only for the first month of a new season drop.
By comparison, webtoon fans are largely casual about their enthusiasm, even if they're highly invested in the story or characters. From my experience, only the most passionate try to connect with other fans online. But when you're passionate about one webtoon, I suppose it's hard to show constant excitement about the 20+ other stories one might keep up with. Still, between the 85 million monthly readers, you'd think each major webtoon would at least have a dedicated fan base (meaning people who regularly post theories, thoughts, fics, and fanart) of mere thousands outside of the app.
One exception for this is that Batman webtoon? It actually trends on Tumblr every now and again. But it doesn't count, because Batman has a built in fandom who'll eat up and yell in the streets about any content where he's a decent dad.
People who read romance webtoon all tend to read the same comics, and actively understand the references to other popular romance comics (Trashta, Team Seojun, SLS), so you'd think there'd be a greater sense of unity. More people actively searching out others to discuss with and posting their thoughts online and not just in that webtoon's comment section.
I mean, C'MON girls!!! Millions of people log into that app like everyday!!! WHERE is the community?? WHERE is the fanart?? WHERE is the fanfic?? WHY does Odd Girl Out only have 7 fanfics?? WHY are there like 2 people on Twitter posting about Weak Hero?? Head in hands fr
One thing Iāve noticed is that most people in the atla fandom arenāt invested in discussing any trauma experienced directly by war and tend to valueĀ āmore commonly known traumaā.Ā
Zuko getting burned? Being unloved? Having anger issues due to it? Desperately wanting his fatherās love?
Everyone understands this in the fandom and explains all his behavior through these lenses.
Iroh losing his son. Sokka wanting to prove himself to his father and be a leader is relatable to many kids trying to grow up and fill shoes expected of them. Toph wanting her parents to understand her.
These are all things many people relate to in some way. Without having to have lived through war.
Itās why most Mai haters donāt even hate her for supporting the Fire Nation. Many donāt recognize thatās a problem. They hate her for how she acts around Zuko. Another relationship issue that can exist outside of a war situation.
Sometimes I get the vibe that people hate Mai for supposedly NOT being loyal to the Fire Nation (apparently calling her selfish and uncaring for her own people).
Itās why people have difficulty understanding Ty Lee also participated in taking down Ba Sing Se and harming many people in the process. And why itās severely problematic that she just joined Suki.
Itās why Zukoās racist and sexist lines throughout the show get tossed aside because he had aĀ āredemption arcā. You donāt unlearn things you were taught to believe your whole life that quickly. Even the most sincere person would stumble and say something harmful or unwittingly carry harmful and racist beliefs.
Itās why his pathetic apology to Suki for burning her village is glossed over, like actual people couldnāt have died then. Like itās so easy to forgive losing your home like that.
Itās why Iroh losing his son is so important and connects to his relationship with Zuko, which apparently makes Iroh good. Yeah, Iroh did bad things whatever those were, but itās all good now. Anyone who is angry at him just lost their way and needs some tea and wisdom. Anger is not the answer.
His actions in the war are an afterthought. Other characters will get headcanons stretching any action in the most negative light:
Azula burning a doll
Aang kissing Katara without permission
Mai not giving in to Zukoās every whim
Jet wanting Zuko to join the Freedom Fighters
Notice again, none of these things are exclusive to war. Even when people write Iroh negatively, itās more on how he doesnāt help Zuko or doesnāt offer any help to Azula.
No one questions why he met dragons and still continued to conquer land. Few people discuss how very not wise it was of him to finally stop supporting the fn after his son died.
Even when people say he was indoctrinated and thatās hard to get out ofā-
then why do you hate on Azula? Why is it not hard for her?
Because she lied to Zuko. Because she worked for Ozai who abused Zuko. This is why Azula is at times more hated than Ozai. Itās not because of her actions in war. Itās because Zuko views her as this big obstacle that he agonizes trying to beat.
Again, not fully related to war.
Zuko and Azula and Ty Lee and Mai worked to conqueror BSS? Azula is the evil one.Ā
This seems less like the suffering of the victims are being prioritized and more like a character whoās already hated is facing even more hate.
Jet floods a village. People still hate him more for manipulating Katara. To them heās not horrible because he flooded a village. Heās horrible because he used Katara first and then he flooded a village.
Jet is seen as the abusive and manipulative boyfriend. Or an out of control angered teenagerĀ āwhose prejudice killed himā.
Thereās little discussion on why he would flood Gaipan. The most common is that he was angry. Or he wanted to spread pain. Nothing about facing actual danger or who was living there or that maybe the Fire Nation could decide to burn the forest if they got fed up.
His trauma is vaguely acknowledged and only to further show how dangerous he is to others. Being suspicious of Zuko is deemed as stalking. Stealing from the ferry is labelled as evil and proof he didnāt change from Book 1 despite being given to other refugees. In fact Jet is the only one seen giving out food.
Jet grew up an orphan in a forest with other orphans under him and a very common take is that heās like a cult leader trying to get more people to brainwash. He canāt let go of the war because of anger and extremism. His trauma makes him dangerous and not uwu and in need of help and love like Zukoās.
People think Katara could forgive Zuko easily but not Jet. Because Jet manipulated her. And Zuko just tried to kill her and her brother and capture the Avatar thus taking away hope for winning the warā¦
These are on entirely different levels. There is also the fact that Zuko invaded her home and made her experience what happened when her mother died all over again.
But thatās okay because Zuko apologized and he was traumatized, and Katara has a big heart. But bring Jet into the equation and itās not even whether he apologizes or not; most decide Katara would never forgive him.Ā
Again, trauma and consequences of war are devalued. None of Jetās trauma beyond anger is acknowledged and still itās only to condemn him for hating the fn. Which would be entirely understandable if people looked at it through the context of war.
The same way Azula hate would lessen if people were to recognize everything she did was because her nation expected soldiers to. She wasnāt a singular evil, reveling in Zukoās suffering. She was following orders from her leader and serving her nation.
Which people could recognize if they thinkĀ āZuko got his scar from being disobedientā andĀ āmaybe the same could happen to Azulaā.
āAzula is horrible to her friendsā and not sheās the freaking princess they have to obey her by law she completely outranks them she is in fact showing a human side by allowing them room to treat her like a friend.
āJet needs to let go of his angerā and not witnessing your family and home killed for no reason and seeing dozens of other children face the same thing and then having to fend for yourself in a forest because not even your own people want to care for you and no matter how much anger and grief you feel nothing happens and no one is coming to help you and now itās your job to protect other children and you never asked for any of this and why wonāt this stop and you have every right to be angry
I could go on, but this is also why many donāt relate to Aang. Yeah he lost his people butā
Iām sorry what?
Genocide is something plenty of people can understand and plenty of people donāt and unfortunately the people who donāt tend to make it hard for survivors to speak about it or be angry and want justice.
Aang should have all the justification to be angry. He should have all the justification to run away from his responsibilities. He is a child meant to save the world and everyone he loves is gone. His nightmares of finally facing Ozai are made into a joke about school to be more relatable to kids. Personally I think that even if many kids wouldnāt understand the genocide aspect, they could understand why Aang would be anxious.
Almost all of the fandom loves Toph because sheās always right and rough and amazing and again very few question her line ofĀ ānot my problemā to helping in the war. Most donāt discuss how her wealthy life would have shielded her entirely from the war, making it difficult for her to understand any of the Gaangās trauma.
One might sayĀ āitās a kid show so they couldnāt show too much of warā.
They had Zuko burned and screaming. They had Katara about to kill someone in cold blood. They had Toph almost fall to her death. They had Hama in chains in a cell for years. They had animal abuse. They had brainwashing and women with no other role than to be puppets.
Even if they couldnāt show too much of war, they should have toned down the amount of humanization the Fire Nation got.Ā
Basically I feel like this stems from how people experience trauma outside of war and how itās become more acceptable to speak about it, but people who have suffering from war and colonization still arenāt welcomed enough and arenāt heard in online spaces and it really shows in this fandom sometimes.
i like jayce and jayvik but ya š im here for the spicy rarepair, not the afterthought angle of a triad

I wanna put Ekko in my pocket. He is literally the main reason Jayce had any chance of turning Viktor from his global takeover plan. He is the MVP. He is the icon. He is the moment. He is the reason for the season.
OUR GLORIOUS KING EKKO CAN DO NO WRONG
