It is so fucking hard to be the only child of an immigrant father, specially if you are a girl. I feel like I'm being controlled all the time, I am almost eighteen and I still get yelled at for wearing sport pants, for wearing a dress, for staying out late. I can barely make friends because I'm afraid of my father, I feel more judged by him then by anyone else.

being a brazilian woman is a nightmare

tw: rape!!!

i know this has nothing to do with this blog but i need to talk about this.

a brazilian influencer was raped by a businessman in 2018 while working to promote a luxury beach club in florianópolis. she was drugged, abandoned by her friends (who later made fun of her) and raped.

she decided to speak up and report him and let me tell you, she has proof. medical exams, witnesses, security videos from the beach club (in which she’s visibly drunk/on drugs, barely standing up straight, and we can see him by her side).

the trial had been going on for 2 years. the rapist, andré de camargo aranha, white, rich and with some very powerful connections, hired one of the most expensive lawyers in santa catarina (and also known for defending big far-right activists) who humiliated the victim, showing pictures of her in a bikini (the olddddddd ridiculous tactic), making fun of her while she cried, calling her tears fake and accusing her of lying to get followers (she lost her instagram account, her job, her friends. she spent the last 2 years living for therapy appointments and the case. this makes no fucking sense).

he was first considered guilty, then innocent, and now he was sentenced with something along the lines of… unintentional rape?

no, that is not a valid sentence. we don’t have that in the constitution. what we do have is “estupro de vulnerável”, when someone rapes a minor or an unconscious/drugged/drunk person (or anyone who is unable to consent), and that should be the final sentence. not a made up word so you won’t make powerful people angry.

all of this makes me feel sad and tired and defeated and TERRIFIED because of the precedent it creates. i honestly wanna die. the last bit of me that believed in justice died today. i need to study today but i don’t think i’ll be able to.

i just hope this girl has peace. in life. because they sure are trying to kill her.

Fic Rec List: Masterlist

Okay last one of these for a while lmao

I’m hearing from android users that they can’t access the rec list page on my blog due to technical glitches in the app, so I’ve made a post with links to all the fic rec lists I’ve compiled. I’ll try to keep it updated below the cut:

People love talking about being warriors of social justice. They condemn any country who’s against it. But somehow the activists always fail small countries. Countries who don’t have big economical value outside of their territory. Countries they don’t know much about.

Artsakh and  Armenia have been under attack since September 27th. It’s a continuation of the ethnic massacre started in 1915-1917. International media outlets have published only a few and very neutral articles about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Congressmen and congresswomen, UN, OSCE, goverments’ representatives have only “urged” the terrorist attacks to stop. Meanwhile countries like USA, Russia, Israel, Georgia make it possible for Azerbaijan and Turkey to get ammunition, which they use to target not only board soldiers ( born in 2000′s) but also innocent civilians.

The internet community has been silent for the most part. Armenians and other supporters have made uproaring trends and have provided information and countless informative infographs so that the online community would be informed and would spread the word. But the coverage is still minimal. People refuse to join.

Artsakh is being attacked the same way as Palestine, Crimea, Lebanon. All small locations, counties that have been failed to be protected. Countries who fight every day to keep their indigenous people and lands alive.

Why is the world silent? If the issue was about a nazi group attacking jews, the world would go apeshit. So what’s the difference? Why the favoritism? People still need help, be it jews or armenians or any other nation.

Wildfires, dying fish and burning cathedrals get worldwide news coverage the first day. But people, actual people, are dying and no one bats an eye.

Locally speaking, a trans person flees an abusive home and the gofundme post gets 5k notes (as it should). But countless people die because of their ethnicity and religious views and the posts about them never surpass 1k notes.

Why is that? Please take a second to reevaluate your bias and actually recognize how much of your online activism is performative and how much of it is actually useful, unbiased, based purely on human rights.

American students, do you really enjoy studying northen-american literature? So far I've read "The Catcher in the Rye" and I'm almost done with "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", and I honestly believe that american characters are much more relatable with the brazillian ones. I mean, I totally respect Machado de Assis and I recognize the importance of José de Alencar to our literature, but honestly, Holden Caulfield and Tom Sawyer are much more interesting than Brás Cubas and Iracema...
