Violet: HI HONEY IM HOME
Xaden:
Ridoc, impersonating Xaden: but Violence I told you not to look for me?! I need to protect you from myself! - OH THE DRAMA!
Imogen: before you start she nearly died last week
Sawyer: and the day before yesterday
Garrick: and two days before that
Violet: and right now can someone help me get this knife out my thigh?
This is the cutest fucking thing
Andarna doesn’t want the lil bb dragons to feel left out, so she keeps them up to date on Xaden and Violet and all the drama in Fourth Wing.
So Meg and I were chatting on Discord the other day and came to a realization:
Hey! now! Come hoy now! Whither do you wander?
Up, down, near or far, here, there or yonder?
Sharp-ears, Wise-nose, Swish-tail and Bumpkin,
White-socks my little lad, and old Fatty Lumpkin!
This is the rhyme that Tom sings when he’s looking for the ponies. The first five of them are Merry’s ponies: presumably one for each of the hobbits to ride, and one more for the baggage. (The last is Tom’s own pony.) And Meg noticed a surprising parallel between the ponies’ names and the hobbits:
Sharp-ears = Merry
Throughout the story, Merry is shown to be the one with the best head for details. He’s “sharp”, if you will; observant and intelligent.
EDIT: Merry is also the one who spies on Bilbo and Frodo to learn about the Ring! He’s got very “sharp” ears, and eyes too.
Wise-nose = Frodo
This is the easiest one. Frodo’s name means “wise” or “wisdom”, so this pony fits him well.
Swish-tail = Pippin
Tell me whose vibe fits Swish-tail better than Pippin. That’s right; you can’t. The name conjures a picture of careless jollity, which couldn’t be more Pippin.
Bumpkin = Sam
A “bumpkin” is defined as “an unsophisticated or socially awkward person from the countryside”. As much as I would be the last person in the world to call Sam a backwards yokel, he is nonetheless the most “country” of the four hobbits, and his name literally means “half-wise”, or “lacking wisdom”.
That leaves White-socks to be the baggage pony, which likely doesn’t have much significance (aside from the fact that he’s an outlier because hobbits don’t wear socks).
We’re not sure there’s any particular point to this. We’re also not sure whether or not Tolkien did it on purpose. But either way, it’s a fun thing to think about!
WHEN I TELL YOU I CACKLED
I love this so much

Really fun laszlo/matt s6 collection posted by the official shadows insta 🦇
I think watching the movies we forget how totally unhinged the Prancing Pony scene is in the books. Like it’s literally:
Frodo: Right, there’s evil things after me, gotta keep a low profile. Got it everyone? Low profile.
Also Frodo, five minutes later: WITH A PING AND A PONG THE FIDDLE STRINGS BROKE AND THE COW JUMPED OVER THE MOOOOOON!!!! *Dances passionately on the table*
A few minutes and one fall later
Strider: Holy shit Frodo you fucked up so bad.
Frodo: W-what??
Strider: Worse than anything your friends could have done!
Frodo: Who-
Strider: We need to talk, once the clamour has died down.
Frodo: Ok…
Later, in the now deserted and dark pub
Pippin: Did he really say to meet you here?
Frodo: Yeah, maybe-
Strider, sitting in a dark corner: Hello
Hobbits: Ah!
Frodo: Uh, hi, you said you wanted to talk to me?
Strider: Yes, and you might hear something to your advantage.
Frodo: Sure… what do you have to say.
Strider: Many things, but of course I have my price.
Frodo: What price?
Strider: no more than you can afford.
Frodo: And that would be-?
Strider: Take me with you on your journey until I wish to leave.
Frodo: No.
Strider: God, Thank you.
Frodo: Huh?
Strider: At least got some sense left.
Frodo: Um.
Strider: Did no one ever teach you “stranger danger”?
Later
Frodo: Guys, I think we can trust him.
Merry: Source?
Frodo: Vibes.
Merry: Valid source.
Frodo: Also he’s so ugly, there’s only so much damage he can do, you know?
Pippin: 10/10 reasoning.
Sam: I can take him.
Aragorn, probably: Manwe above, I’m not a moment too soon.
