(Don't know if you've gotten questions like this before but wanted to see what you'd think, considering how much you seem to like Shadow.)
Q: Concerning Shadow's title of Ultimate Life Form, do you think that it is something empowering he should wear with pride, or a curse/burden to be freed of which, among other things, shackles him to horrific and unrealistic expectations?
I feel like this question is kinda like a litmus test for why a person may like Shadow.
Personally, I think there's nuance to be found here. To me, Shadow feels both those ways about being "The Ultimate Lifeform," but how he feels about it bounces between one or the other depending on his mood. He is The Ultimate Lifeform, a being of great power that demands respect when he's trying to intimidate someone or achieving his goals -- Goals only he is capable of achieving, with what he is and all that. Obviously. He's the Ultimate Lifeform, so of course he should be the one to step in and solve the problem. He was designed to be an unstoppable force...
... So when he fails, he has to mentally come to grips with that failure in a way that, I feel, is more difficult for him than, say, if Sonic fails. Sonic is natural. His failures are natural. Shadow is unnatural. His failures. Are. Unnatural. They are not meant to happen. It's arrogance until it's not. His status is just as much a rope he holds to climb a mountain as it is a noose around his neck. A source of confidence, and Gerald Robotnik's judgemental gaze.
He's proud. He's an achiever. He's a pillar of strength. Until he slips.
So, how he (may) feel is how I feel. Depending on his mood, Shadow's Ultimate Lifeform title is both a boon to him and a great and terrible weight. He draws strength and self-loathing from it in equal amounts. That's simply how I interpret it, anyway.
Hey there, earthsong! Your Mario AU is pretty intriguing, and I'm curious to see how it keeps developing! Your take on Daisy is awesome, but I was wondering if in this AU there are any other combat sports besides boxing, and if Her Rowdiness is also interested in any of them...
"Her Rowdiness", that's hilarious xD
But yes, there's def more combat sports than just boxing! Kickboxing, wrestling, fencing, dueling, martial arts of all sorts. The one Daisy actually has a career in is Brawling, which is essentially a mixed martial arts sport but moreso in that everyone can use any fighting style they want and not so much the styles are mixed together to create one specific method of fighting. It also involves the use of magic combat so there's that as well.
Daisy appreciates all sorts of fighting styles, hell she's fought against pretty much all of them, so she has a vested interested in them. If not to perform herself, then to learn so she can use her noggin' when in the field. For Daisy though, the most prominent fighting style she uses is probably boxing. owo
Please Give me your attention ๐
Please read this as if i were a member of your family. Maybe your sister, your daughter or your friend. As if my family who is going through difficult circumstances is your family.
Hello, I'm Ola, a graduate student from the faculty of science - Al-Azhar University in G@za P@lestine. I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read my story. As you reading my message, myself and my family, โmy mother, father, three sisters, and my little brother,โ are trying to survive under all kinds of suffering including but not limited to fear, instability, and starvation, thirst, and poverty in northern G@za.
After 508 days of suffering, I am writing to you today with a heavy heart, in desperate need of your help. I can't describe how harsh the situation we are living in is. My family is suffering from the biting cold of winter, and we are facing a severe shortage of food and clothing. Every day feels like a lifetime, and every moment makes me feel helpless and hopeless. ๐
After the prices went up so crazy, I created this campaign to help my family provide food, water and essential needs. I know for sure that you can't help all families that want your help but at least you can help those who come across your life.
Every simple thing makes a difference in changing the situation we are in. So please don't hesitate to help us ๐๐
Thank you for taking a minute to read this.โฅ๏ธ

ย THIS IS THE EDUCATION I SIGNED UP FOR
full disclosure I orig wanted to make part 2 of the wolf hall brat edit (feat Thomas More as Lorde) but I scrapped it cos i didn't really have enough footage BUT the overwhelmingly lovely response from you guys to part 1 has enabled me I fear. Watch this space
So Shadow likes watching TV, ey? Hmm... Do you think he'd simply enjoy whatever's on the screen at the time, or do you think he'd be into more specific things? For example, nature documentaries (Anything narrated by David Attenborough) cartoons ( Like Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes) dramas (Breaking Bad) or period pieces (Wolf Hall)?
I dunno, I think he'd probably just watch whatever. Maybe he'd be more into TCM.
Some of you may already be aware of this, but I figured I should make a proper and official announcement:
White Bear Red Rose will soon be removed from AO3 to be self-published.
I have wanted to publish a book since I was a little girl and this is the first time in my life that I ever felt so utterly gripped by a story that it feels like it might burst out of me if I don't write it down. I have never been able to get past chapter three of any novel I've tried to write in the past. Twenty-eight chapters of WBRR later - I knew I had something special on my hands.
And I knew I owed it to that little girl dreaming of being an author to get it out into the world.
I can't thank the readers who have stuck this far with WBRR enough - you guys have been such an inspiration for me to keep writing, knowing that there was even just one person out there who was interested in this "what if" story of mine. I'm truly sorry that WBRR will no longer be freely availble for you to read, but I do hope you will keep your eyes peeled for it if you're interesed in purchasing an ebook or paperback version of it in the future - I'm aiming for a summer 2025 release! I will post updates on my WordPress blog and public socials if you'd like to follow along.
That being said, I didn't want to blindsight you guys, so WBRR will remain up on AO3 until 31 October 2024, after which it will be removed. If you do download it to keep, please be mindful that the published version will be edited from its form on AO3 and of course please do not repost this story anywhere else. The AO3 version is yours to enjoy, but strictly for private use only. As for things I've posted on Tumblr, there will be some content removed from here as well, depending on how much of a "spoiler" they are.
And yes, I do intend on continuing the story with Book Two (Mary's Reign) and Book Three (Elizabeth's Reign), but, naturally, these will be directly published rather than going on AO3 first.
Thank you all again for joining me on this journey!
From the heart of unimaginable suffering, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported my family ๐๐ป
Right now, famine is hitting us harder than ever, my heart cries whenever I go to the market to buy any basic necessities! The prices are crazy, and most days my children survive on just bread Hunger and thirst are destroying us, and cooking on fire increases our suffering unbearably! Severe eye and chest sensitivity, in addition to constant stomach pain due to the type of food and the way it is cooked.
All this while we flee from one place to another in fear of bombing, bullets, and imminent danger! I cannot describe what I feel, but it is a feeling beyond exhaustion!
Despite the exhaustion, your support gives us strength and I hope you will not let us down
If you can donate, please do so, or at least help us by sharing, so we can reach those who can
Your kindness truly keeps us going

A lot of fiction these days reads as ifโas I saw Peter Raleigh put it the other day, and asย Iโve discussed it beforeโthe author is trying to describe a video playing in their mind. Often there is little or no interiority. Scenes play out in โreal timeโ without summary. First-person POV stories describe things the character canโt see, but a distant camera could. Thereโs an overemphasis on charactersโ outfits and facial expressions, including my personal pet peeve: the โreaction shot round-upโ in which we get a description of every characterโs reaction to something as if a camera was cutting between sitcom actors.
When I talk with other creative writing professors, we all seem to agree that interiority is disappearing. Even in first-person POV stories, younger writers often skip describing their characterโs hopes, dreams, fears, thoughts, memories, or reactions. This trend is hardly limited to young writers though. I was speaking to an editor yesterday who agreed interiority has largely vanished from commercial fiction, and I think you increasingly notice its absence even in works shelved as โliterary fiction.โ When interiority does appear on the page, it is often brief and redundant with the dialogue and action. All of this is a great shame. Interiority is perhaps the prime example of an advantage prose as a medium holds over other artforms.
fascinated by this article, "Turning Off the TV in Your Mind," about the influences of visual narratives on writing prose narratives. i def notice the two things i excerpted above in fanfic, which i guess makes even more sense as most of the fic i read is for tv and film. i will also be thinking about its discussion of time in prose - i think that's something i often struggle with and i will try to be more conscious of the differences between screen and page next time i'm writing.
