Okay. *Spoilers* So there’s a lot that happened in season 3 of CAOS but the scene that I am eager to speak on first is the one where the women of the coven are trying to bring back Hilda. I found myself so moved by it that I kept on replaying that scene over and over, and over. It was just so powerful. The acting being more than just taking on a character and changing of facial expressions but also the conviction in the voice of Miranda Otto as Zelda, a sister determined to bring her sister back from the dead.
The entire scene of them calling upon the Goddess Hecate, being in a circle of womanhood- hands bound together while the males could only watch on the side- was nothing short of powerful. Roz being a part of that circle, while she is not a witch, she is a human with mystical gifts and it just felt empowering and emotional to me. The tears would not stop coming. It was a moment of sisterhood, motherhood and womanhood.
This show has countless times referenced the ways women are not respected or viewed as capable as their male counterparts. *Zelda having to hide Leticia from Blackwood because she was born first, Sabrina having to challenge for position of Top Boy, Father Blackwood refusing to give Prudence his name, the vampire telling Sabrina she is beautiful and ordering her to tell him thanks as if he had any right in making her beautiful or him taking a bite out of her without her consent, etc. The times that women are challenged in this show is crazy. So for this scene to make the men unable to actually take part but freely give their support while they call on a female deity is incredible.
I cannot stop going on about this scene but the lines “WE CALL ON…OURSELVES, THE POWERS THAT HAVE BEEN DENIED US.” The powers that have been denied us. The powers that have been denied to us. The. Powers. That. Have. Been. Denied. Us. All the while, as those words are freed from Zelda’s mouth, she shuts her eyes and motions her arms down in such a way that brings out frustration, anger, pain, lack of respect. She is calling upon this Goddess, praying to her and begging her not only as a servant but as a woman.
It’s nice to have representation, in all aspects. Such as a person of color seeing characters that are depicted in positive un-stereotypical roles. Or as girls and women seeing other women in positions of power or as Goddesses. Without going in too deep on this topic, I just want to say how impactful it is to even have the thought of Goddesses. If I was a witch in that universe, I would wish to pray to one and not solely a male figure one. There are numerous times where we are united by the experiences other women have faced. “We call on ourselves”. Times when only we can understand and truly relate.
Women are strong. I view this scene as a way of embracing and being fully aware of this strength. A coming togetherness that unites this strength. Again, that scene was one of the most powerful scenes of the entire show.
DOCTOR STRANGE - HITTING US THEATRES NOVEMBER 4TH!
I still get this as a member of MENSA. If I divulge this, there’s almost an expectation that I will then burst forth with something unbelievable – I’ll pluck out L’inverno from The Four Seasons on my uvula, or bend office furniture with my mind, or recite the entire periodic table in under twenty-six seconds.
Thanks, brain, for all those reminders about things I never forget.
Olympus has changed.
The balance of power has shifted.
Zeus still reigns as king, yes, but now no more than a figurehead.
Gone are the days of mortals quaking in fear at every thunderstorm, every drought, every flood. They have grown beyond that, evolved. They have figured ways around his wrath; levees, crops that grow in the desert, iron and steel and cables.
Zeus is no more than a figurehead on Olympus.
Gone are the days of his council, of Demeter and Poseidon and Hera.
The crops are managed by the mortals now, the seas pose little threat when they can see Poseidon’s wrath coming, plot course around it, or dive below the waves. Hera’s base is crumbling- what she protected, her narrow idea of marriage, is changing and broadening to include so much more. Aphrodite is inching in on her power, love taking place where obligation once stood.
Instead, Olympus is ruled by a parliament.
In a world that runs on fossil fuels and crude oils mined from beneath the earth, Hades’ power grows. His kingdom expands with every life lost in pursuit of his materials. The mortals are learning, their eyes are opening at the futility of this effort. They are beginning to turn to other methods- to Apollo and Zephyros and Persephone, but there will always be death. Hades wins either way.
The machines that guzzle the fuel? They belong to Hephaestus. The machines that take lives? They are his realm as well. Anything with a gear, and engine, a circuit board, or a blade belongs to the God of Fire. His crooked throne grows ever higher.
The old ways of thinking are dying. Those in power who have wielded it over the oppressed are falling from their perches, called to justice by the women they wronged. Peoples of all genders are coming out of the woodwork, less and less afraid to be who they are everyday. The social norms that separate the mortals based on a binary are crumbling. Athena waits, and smiles. Her time has come once more.
But above all, one God’s power has risen exponentially. Roads cross-cross the world like the scars on a whipped man’s back. Currency flows like water, more and more essential by the day. Hephaestus’ machines and Hades’ fuels only further his power. Places of commerce spring up like weeds among enclaves of mortals- they will travel miles to go to one market and miles to another with nary a thought. The internet connects them all- relating messages, parcels, commerce, gambling… all his realm.
Zeus may be king of Olympus, but Hermes holds the power.
The establishment of heaven has fallen. The Patriarch is powerless.
The Outcast, the Disabled, the Feminist, and the Clever Criminal have risen up and seized the throne, if not in name, then in deed.
It won’t be long before the mortals do the same.
I get a lot of DMs asking me “How do I know if I have ADHD?” and the short and boring answer is “you can’t unless you talk to a doctor”.
But I want to share what I think should have been obvious clues to me!
I think it’s hard to judge your own symptoms if all you’ve known your entire life was ADHD. I was convinced I had no problems and just had to stop being lazy and all my problems would go away.
So, to everyone asking themselves “what if I’m just lazy?”, I hope you can find the courage from this to seek a diagnosis! And if you can’t:
Your struggles are legit and real, if they have a name or not.
Found this gem in an article
aka that deleted scene from Endgame that made us all cry
The way Pepper bows her head, softly crying once she knows that Tony can’t hear here, knowing that the father of her daughter and he love of her life is gone, is one of the many tear-jerking moments in this scene. She’s been with Tony through the drinking, the sleeping around, the disregard for his own life, and she’s still here. Tony might finally be able to rest, but Pepper won’t.
Steve Rogers, and in my opinion, the most heartbreaking moment in this, trembles — really shakes — as he falls to his knees in a moment of weakness. The super soldier, Captain America, brought down by the loss of one of his closest friends. After all the amends he made, after finally trusting Tony again, Steve has him ripped away from him again. And he’ll always be haunted by the what ifs. When Steve came out of the ice, Tony Stark gave him a home when he needed it the most. Tony took that home away with him when he died.
Tony’s ultimate best friend, Rhodey, is so overwhelmed by grief, that even a usually stoic character can barely muster the strength to turn his head away. Peter Parker, the one of many he took under his wing, isn’t shown much in the scene, but his heartfelt crying during Tony’s death is just as painful.
Then Clint Barton kneels. He kneels for a friend, a leader, and a man he looked up to — gone, taken from them forever. A man who was part of the very first team they built together, who was endlessly loyal and never failed to make him laugh. The rest of the team — the original team — they kneel too. Thor kneels for the bravest mortal he had the honour of calling a friend. Bruce kneels for the man who taught him to love himself, who showed him the alternative to self-loathing, his “science bro” and his best friend. Somewhere out there, Natasha kneels too, for the man she so horribly misjudged all those years ago.
T’Challa, the King of Wankanda, who bows to no one, kneels too. All of Wakanda kneels. So does Carol, an all-powerful warrior, and so does Valkyrie, the queen of Asgard. Stephen Strange, who is so struck by guilt and the knowledge that there was simply no other way that he almost curls into himself. Bucky Barnes, who still holds regret for tearing Steve and Tony apart, for inadvertently causing the death of the man in front of him. Sam, Wanda, the rest of the Avengers, they kneel, they bow their heads, all for their founding father.
Nebula, who was always forced to kneel before a tyrant, now chooses to kneel because this is a man who is worth it. Peter Quill, Rocket, Drax, Mantis, the Guardians kneel for Tony because, even though they’ve just met, Tony’s heart was what struck them with the most awe.
Tony Stark touched the lives of everyone there. He truly was a man worthy of their respect, and he would live on in his legacy and in their memories.
And yes, somewhere out there, he’s with Natasha, embracing as they reminisce about all their friends, all the years they spent laughing in a big ugly building in the middle of New York, surrounded by the people they loved the most.
i want to be as rich as paulina del ville but instead i’m as stressed as a toadfish
I’m really sorry to hear your day sucked
I’m not sure if tomorrow will be better for you, but it’ll be a reset
You’ll find the courage you need to do That Thing
You are perfectly okay. You’re doing just fine…more than just fine, even. There’s nothing wrong with you.
Take care of yourself tonight. It’ll be okay.
I have no idea what we did, but the Travelers fandom has been blessed with the most amazing male characters. David, Trevor, and Philip are such wonderful people, the amount of generosity, care and kindness the have for others melts my heart and brings me to tears. Each and every episode further proves how awesome they are and it is a wonderful thing to see on a TV show.
And the ladies are such badasses and so smart and skillful, they floor me, especially Carly.
Going in, I didn’t think this show was anything special, but boy, was I wrong! I’m so glad I gave it a chance. I honestly hope it will get renewed for S3
