NASA Prepares for First Virginia Coast Launch to Moon http://1.usa.gov/18alLhy A spectacular nighttime blastoff blazing a historic trail to the Moon is set to soar on Friday, Sept. 6, at 11:27 p.m. EDT. NASA's Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), will launch from the Eastern Shore of Virginia at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island - America's newest spaceport. LADEE's robotic mission will be to orbit the moon and gather detailed information about the structure and composition of the thin lunar atmosphere. A thorough understanding of these characteristics of our nearest celestial neighbor will help researchers understand other bodies in the solar system, such as large asteroids, Mercury, and the moons of outer planets. http://bit.ly/14rHrs4
