"See this cup? This is literally my favorite cup"
tired: katara’s painted lady and zuko’s blue spirit are parallels because they’re both disguises that involve face coverings
wired: katara’s painted lady and aang’s kuzon are parallels because they are disguises used to help fire nation citizens in need. ultimately broadening their understanding of the fire nation, the affects of war, and what is important in order to heal the world. accordingly, zuko’s blue spirit and toph’s blind bandit are parallels because they are disguises used by the children of nobility to escape the watchful eyes of their caretakers and anonymously accomplish things for themselves.
Glass Boy: Woah that’s such a cool tattoo!
Finn: Thanks it’s to remember my brother, Jake.
GB: Oh I’m so sorry! What happened to him?
Finn: Nothing. I just like remembering him.
erase the notion that undervalued and underpaid labor is not absolutely essential to the functioning of society. erase the idea that “anyone could do it” and replace it with “someone has to do it.” and then compensate accordingly.
The personality of each avatar is what the world needed the previous avatar to be.
Ok so that other post really got me thinking and like…no wonder Aang is so freakin quick to offer advice. That isn’t just him trying to be a good friend that’s him carrying on Air Nomad culture. That’s him acting according to how his people have always acted. Only now it’s not appreciated. Only now his advice is akin to “pre-school teachings” and not worth listening to. No wonder he wanted to cry when Katara shouted at him about his “infinite wisdom getting old”. Like ok, obviously being yelled at fucking sucks. But I bet it was mostly because he was raised with the understanding that the monks teachings meant a great deal to the entire world. And now it doesn’t.
He woke up in a time when all those teachings meant nothing to anyone but him.

Sometimes I think about those high res Jupiter pics and then think about Van Gogh and get emotional because it’s like this one, lonely man that didn’t experience an ounce of fame or recognition in his life time had the image of the universe in his head and he didn’t know it.
hate to repost but the bde that is sheerly radiating out of this picture is just too much
The great Area 51 raid.

Maybe a year ago I decided to calculate exactly how many seconds there are in 24 hours (or a day). It turned out to be 86 400 seconds. Since then I have remembered that and I write it down on my hand each day, as a reminder that I have 86 400 seconds each day to do or change something. It kind of calms me. I kind of want a tattoo of it in the future. Today we had national finals. On one of the questions we had to calculate how many seconds there were in 24 hours. I got sooo happy and still am. I didn’t learn it for nothing after all.
imagine if the oceans were replaced by forests and if you went into the forest the trees would get taller the deeper you went and there’d be thousands of undiscovered species and you could effectively walk across the ocean but the deeper you went, the darker it would be and the animals would get progressively scarier and more dangerous and instead of whales there’d be giant deer and just wow
As some of you might already have guessed, I’m a fan of Japanese girl idols. One of the many, many idol groups in existence today in Japan is NMB48, a Osaka-based spin-off group of the (in)famous AKB48. NMB has a weekly show that’s surprisingly entertaining as well as educational called NMB to Manabu-kun, in which the members of NMB and a few comedians listen to guest lectures by experts in various fields.
Back on May 15th, the theme of the episode was pataphysics/the science of sci-fi. One of the topics of the lecture held by university professor Yanagita Rikao was the age-old question of “WHY ARE MAGICAL GIRLS NEVER ATTACKED WHILE TRANSFORMING???”
This was his answer, based on the magical girl series Futari wa Pretty Cure.
Question: The transformation scenes in Pretty Cure are very long, so why don’t the bad guys attack the girls in the meantime?
“Even when I was little, I was thinking ‘Hey! Attack them now!’”
“I found this odd as well, so I watched the transformation scene many times. And what I noticed is, when the Pretty Cures yell ‘Dual Aurora Wave!’ and transform, a rainbow-colored column of light shoots up from the ground, going BOOM!”
“And then the Pretty Cures levitate, and go up into the air. Based on this, I believe the protagonists of Pretty Cure are being held up in the air by the power of light.”
“When we think of light, we usually think it heats up things or lights up things. But in reality, light has the power to hold up things as well.”
“When the sun is beating down on us in the summer, the human body is being pressed downwards by the sun beams with a force of 2/100,000g.”
“But this is only about a one-hundred of the weight of a mosquito, so no matter how hot it is, we don’t feel that sunlight is heavy.”
“So that means the light holding them up must be extremely strong. If we assume that the two Pretty Cures each weigh about 45kg and do some calculations…”
“It means the light during the transformation must have the energy of 2,100,000,000kW per 1m2.”
“While the entirety of power that Japan is capable of generating is only 100,000,000kW.”
“So they’re using 21 TIMES the amount of energy the whole of Japan can generate.”
“So what would happen if a bad guy jumped in to try to sabotage their transformation?”
“He would EVAPORATE INSTANTLY.”
“DEATH AWAITS ANYONE WHO DARES TO DISRUPT A PRETTY CURE TRANSFORMATION.”
“So this means the best thing to do would be to transform close to any bad guys.”
“Yes. They are the strongest while they transform, and are practically invincible.”
i was never the same after the show ended
I think everyone should use “There is no war in Ba Sing Se” from now on when something obvious is going on but everyone tries to hide it.
i think it’s a universal truth that everyone in our generation takes pluto’s losing its planetary status as a personal offense
1 universe, 9 planets, 7 seas, 7 continents, 809 islands, 204 countries, and I had the unfortunate luck of meeting u
Every time I rewatch Avatar The Last Airbender and have watched the last episode I go back to the first episode and watch it until the moment Aang says “Will you go penguin sledding with me?” Let the adventure begin again
i think it’s so neat that people are still discovering avatar for the first time and enjoying the series just as much as old-time fans like us who’ve been loving it since 2005. it really goes to show just how much of an impact this show has made on the world and even across different generations!
I can finally share this little project I’ve been working on!! it’s called “the Crown of the Fae” and i really wanted to explore how my two characters, Aiden (the fae) and Aiva (the wee lass) met each other! And what better way to do that than in the form of RHYME!!! But honestly, these two characters mean a lot to me, and I’m so glad my book illustration class finally gave me the opportunity to do a little more with them! .
