Y'all,

Y'all,

I took a class on conlanging this semester, and today was the last day, so the prof presented snippits from conlangs.

My snippit was that really sad quote I made in an earlier post, and I had to explain how the Sêi (the Time God) works and how she exists at all times kinda deal.

But tone of my classmates made a language with classifiers from set theory and discrete math.

Snippits from his conlang included phrases like "for all boys they are smarter than him" and "there exists a boy such that he is smarter than him."

I failed to ask him about what possessed him to do this, but I may get back here after that.

Another OC Questionnaire

An open tag from @authorcoledipalo.

This time, I'm doing this with the four most integral Heroes: Izi, Hota, Tagif, and Lozef:

Would you team up with your worst enemy if it was your only option?

Izi: It depends on what, I think. I promised Vimir I would make the train tickets free, so I can't really team up with the train company to make that happen. But to save Meiste? Obviously if there's no better choice, I'd do anything to save our world.

Hota: Izi's too trusting. I make very few enemies, and I keep my closest friends near my chest. If I've decided I can't trust you, I will never decide to trust you again.

Lozef: Regrettably, I'm more like Izi on this one. I've had to swallow my pride twice and admit that I'm wrong in order to do what's right. That's what's most important, anyways.

Tagif: Hota's got the right idea. I pound my enemies into the dust!

What is your pet peeve?

Izi: Hota always tells me I don't handle people questioning my authority very well, and they're right about that.

Hota: Izi says I am such a good planner that I can't stand when there isn't a plan, mostly emphasizing that I'm not flexible enough sometimes. Izi's gung-ho attude is just as anxiety-inducing as it is refreshing.

Lozef: Ok, doing shit that pertains to me without asking first is my biggest pet peeve. It's usually pretty small-like Izi changing the windows in the chapel. I swapped them for a reason! Don't swap them back!

Tagif: I don't care about authority, I care about expertise. Like, you're going to explain to me how to to build a chestplate with bulit-in holographic computer screens? Nobody's done that, yet, but Hota and I have butted heads over political expertise.

If a monster asked you your worst nightmare what would you tell it and why?

Izi: Well, it's gotta be believable, but not something you're actually scared of, right? Otherwise the monster will terrify the living daylight out of you. So, I guess I would say something like beetles.

Hota: I think it depends on whether or not I know what this monster is capable of. If it's Tev? I'd be honest: the death of Izi-or Tagif or Lozef-would kill me mentally, I think. If it's an sort-of evil Meiste? Beetles.

Lozef: No point in lying to the damn thing, I can take it. Losing my magic is my biggest nightmare, and I grapple with how Dolgof and Pagjom must've felt every day. My second-biggest is if something happened to Tev.

Tagif: My biggest nightmare is if Heja'umak thinks I'm weird or something. I can live with that, but it would hurt a lot. I guess I'm fortunate that my biggest nightmare is just wondering if my crush likes me back?

Open tag for anyone interested!

I’ve got to find my worst-spelled words sometimes, but yeah, the more tired I get, the worse I spell, too. Reblogging so I can find this post in a pinch lol.

I have made a discovery.

Apparently, the more tired I am, the more poorly I spell.

Fun fact: I'm actually garbage at spelling. A lot of people (both IRL and otherwise) think I'm really good at it just because I know how to spell most everything off the top of my head, but that's just because I've learned them over time from writing so much. Without knowing... I spell extremely poorly.

Why do I mention all this?

I tried spelling "structured" as "struckured".

And that's just the beginning.

Day 15 (21 in base 7) of rewriting my novel.

I hit 20,000 words today! I'm so excited. This also means that I am just over 9,000 words on Part Two, which also makes me proud.

Today I also really focused on fleshing out Odapir as a conlang, and I have a little ways to go before I finish deriving Modern Odapir from Middle Odapir.

Fun fact, by the way, Odapir is an exonym, since Odeineikō is the endonym in Middle Odapir.

As a treat for reading this far into my blog, have a description of Middle Odapir phonology:

Middle Odapir Phonology

Stops: p, b, t, d, k, g

Nasal Stops: m, n

Affricates: pf, ts, c (palatal affricate)

Fricatives: f, s, sh (palatal fricative), h

Liquids: w, j (palatal approximant)

Tap: r (alveolar tap)

Vowels

High: ī, u, ū

Mid-high: o, ō

Mid-low: e, ɜ

Low: a, ā

Diphthongs: əi, ei, əu, au, ou

That's all for now. Stay tuned for tomorrow's update!

THE DAY OF LANGUAGES!!!

This 7th of May, 2025, we use our own language again!

If your language, native or not, is something other than English, on May 7th you can speak that language all day!

You’ll blog in your chosen language(s) all day: text posts, replies, tags (except triggers and organisational tags).

Regardless of what language people choose to speak to you, you can answer in your own.

Non-verbal, non-written languages (like sign language and dialects) are more than welcome! See my FAQ for tips

English native speakers can participate in any other language they're studying/have studied/know.

The tag is gonna be #Speak Your Language Day or #spyld for short.

Please submit me some language facts for me to share on this day <3

I saw this from @oldfashionedidiot and this post is giving major Lozef-Dolgof vibes, especially in the "early days" (years 0-75, when Lozef was trying her hardest to win over Dolgof.)

But this is still true for Lozef! I do imagine that Dolgof would eventually find Lozef's undying devotion weird, and that's part of the reason for The Big Disappearance TM, but Lozef is so undyingly loyal to Dolgof that she's also undyingly loyal to her kid, Izi.

Even though she literally stabs Dolgof in the back, she knows it's wrong and is being manipulated by the President of Zeneste to consolidate power. That's why she comes running back to Izi: not only is she loyal to him, she's also loyal to Dolgof and wants to see her back on her feet.

That, and, she literally wrote a thousands-of-pages-long Epic about her journeys with Dolgof right after it happened. This is literally the Epic of the Hero of Life.

fuck unrequited love, give me unrequited devotion! give me a character who worships the mere ground their s/o walks on. give me a character who would do anything, cross any boundary or burn any bridge for the one they love. give me a character reveres and adores their partner to a religious (and unhealthy) extent

but the devotee just doesn’t get it. they don’t understand what they’ve done to receive this treatment or why the other character looks at them like they’ve just seen salvation. they fear they will never live up to the devoted one’s expectations and sometimes they wonder if their s/o is even in love with them, or if they’re really in love with the perfect version of them that they’ve created in their mind.

bonus points if the constant devotion and worship starts to drive a wedge between them!!!!!!

screenshot of a tweet from "elucent" (@elucentdev)

"nice argument, unfortunately i have drawn myself as the clever brown pi and you as the befuddled brown pi"

the tweet has an image attached - a screenshot of a 3b1b video with two pi figurines with eyes. doing what the tweet says. presumably because the brown pi figure is in the middle of explaining something complicated to the blue one. also the 3b1b logo is in the corner.

“It can take years. With the first draft, I just write everything. With the second draft, it becomes so depressing for me, because I realize that I was fooled into thinking I’d written the story. I hadn’t — I had just typed for a long time. So then I have to carve out a story from the 25 or so pages. It’s in there somewhere — but I have to find it.”
